Press Release
Sonifex meet with Prime Minister at 10 Downing Street
5th June 2013
On 2nd May 2013, the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) accompanied 14 Chamber members to Downing Street to engage in an honest and open conversation with the Prime Minister about the issues facing UK businesses.
The meeting was an opportunity for UK Chambers of Commerce and their members to educate senior officials within Government about the vital work being carried out by businesses every day. Themes for discussion centred on international trade and exports and what more the Government can do to support existing and potential exporting businesses.
Northamptonshire Chamber member, Sonifex, who manufactures and exports audio and video products for radio and television studios, was one of the lucky 14 members to be invited to the breakfast meeting with the Prime Minister, which was also attended by Vince Cable (Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills), Jo Johnson (Head of the Number 10 Policy Unit) and Nick Baird (Chief Executive of the UKTI).
Marcus Brooke, Managing Director at Sonifex Limited, attended the meeting and said: “The export market is critical to our ongoing expansion. We’re in a niche market with limited UK customers and it is only by selling to over 60 countries worldwide that we’re able to continue our development. This was an ideal opportunity to meet with the Prime Minister and discuss some of the issues and problems surrounding exporting for SMEs. David Cameron showed a clear interest and understanding of the challenges facing exporters and hopefully our meeting will go some way towards helping change for the better in this area.”
Paul Griffiths, Chief Executive of Northamptonshire Chamber, added: “This visit is another example of Chambers, not only having links to local MPs and organisations, but also at a national level, thanks to our accreditation by the BCC. We are proud to have been able to get one of our member companies in front of the Prime Minster to discuss the issues affecting his business, face to face.”
“Exporting overseas will play a major part in unlocking the growth potential of the UK and, if we are to win the ’global race’ that the Prime Minister regularly speaks of, we need to be doing much more to help companies break into new international markets.”
Every member of Northamptonshire Chamber, as part of their membership, has access to a free Representation service. The Chamber represents the views of its member companies to the people that matter, such as decision-makers and those in power. Its network of contacts covers all of the local authorities in Northamptonshire, key regional organisations in the East Midlands, Westminster MPs and national Government.
